AN HISPANO-MORESQUE IVORY, STAINED WOOD AND SILVER-INLAID WRITING CABINET (VARGUENO) POSSIBLY GRANADA, POST-NASRID SPAIN, 16TH - 17TH CENTURY
Of typical rectangular shape, supported by four rounded metal feet, three sides of the exterior and the interior decorated in “mudejar”, characterised by intricate marquetry workin using tesserae made of bone, ivory, coloured wood, ebony and silver, the design arranged in an eight-pointed star pattern, the writing slope with fifteen stellar medallions, the writing slope opening to reveal five drawers of various sizes, all with a long bronze handle, two lateral wings, panels decorated with geometric lattice bands featuring triangles or arrow-shaped patterns.
