OTTOMAN, 19TH CENTURY, LADIES TRADITIONAL HAMMAM SHOES
Comprising high platform, the sole and the platform decorated with silver appliqués with scrolling foliage, the upper band in velvet embroidered with metal-threaded floral decorations, These clogs were crafted with the affluent woman in mind, offering her respite from damp and soiled floors as she stands above them. Known by their Arabic name "qabqab," these exquisite footwear items derive their moniker from the melodious sound they emitted with each step taken by their wearer.
