Ottoman Turkish manuscript on paper, 214ff., 23ll. of black naskh, text set within a broad gilt border and fine blue lines, overlining in red, illustrated headpiece in gilt and polychrome, original dark brown morocco binding with central medallions with foliate designs in gilt, folio 26.4 x 16cm,
A manuscript about history regarding the heroic deeds of Sultan Süleyman (r. 1520-1566), particularly popular within the Ottoman world; a first version was written at the request of the Sultan by Arif Celebi (d. 1562); the text was a great success and many variations were written, including that of Kara Celebi Zade; the latte, originally from Bursa, had a prominent administrative career appointed by Sultan IV as Shaykh Al-Islam.
