It was first published on May 18, 1857, with its location specified as Tomtom Street, number 10. The mosque gained its worldwide recognition following the inclusion of its pictures in the book "Costumes Populaires de la Turquie" by Osman Hamdi Bey and Marie de Launey, which was showcased at the Vienna World Fair in 1873.
