OTTOMAN PRINTED BOOK, DIWAN-I SHAM’I BY SHAM’I, ORIGINAL COPY WRITTEN BY MUHAMMAD REFET, PUBLISHED IN CONSTANTINIYA (ISTANBUL), 7 RABI’UL AWWAL 1290/ 5 MAY 1873
Ottoman Turkish printed book, 64 pages, thin cardboard binding with black cloth backing, At the end of the book, on the left side, there is a date inscription which reads "Harrerehu Muhammed Refet."
The University of Toronto Library houses a copy of this book, printed in 1304, which prominently displays the statement "Printed in Haci Hüseyin Efendi Dervish Lodges."
Despite being a highly skilled poet who thrived during the reigns of two illustrious sultans, namely Yavuz Sultan Selim and Kanuni Sultan Süleyman, Şem'î from Prizren did not receive the due recognition he deserved. Today, only three manuscript copies of his divan have been preserved. The sole existing copy of Şem'î Dîvân in Turkey can be found in the personal library of Hayati Develi and has been published alongside its facsimile.

According to Meşâirü'ş-şuâra, the account of Şem'î's passing unfolds as follows: On a night when he was in good health, devoid of any physical ailments or fatigue, and without even a hint of a headache, Şem'î took a candle in his hand and summoned the dervishes of the convent as well as many of his friends. He proclaimed, "Tonight, Şem'î has his Şebistan," and proceeded to illuminate the entire dervish lodge with countless candles before retiring to rest. In a serene slumber, he urged his companions, "Dear friends, continue your prayers while I find repose." While engrossed in their spiritual practice, Şem'î's friends eventually approached to awaken him. Repeated attempts to rouse him proved futile, leading them to realise that Şem'î had peacefully departed from this world.
