CEZÂ KÂNÛNNÂME-YI HÜMÂYÛNU, UNIFORM CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE, (عسكرى جزا قانوننام همايونى), SULTAN ABDULAZIZ ERA, OTTOMAN, 1871
About military law, 65 pages, bound in dark brown leather tooled in gilt, tughra in gilt as central ornament, 23x16cm, 20x12cm folio
Ottoman law, which was under the influence of Islamic law until the Tanzimat era, was influenced by the West and experienced significant changes in the field of law, as in many areas after the Tanzimat.
In this era, besides the traditional sharia courts, new western-style courts were opened under the name of “Nizamiye courts”, arrangements were made in accordance with the western legal system to be implemented in these places, and important laws were enacted. It is possible to subject the Ottoman codification studies after the Tanzimat to a triple classification in terms of their sources: religious/national laws, quoted laws, mixed laws. The book in question is very important in terms of the new structuring and regulations in the Ottoman Penal Code.
