Jean Dumont, baron de Carlscroon (1667-1727)
Jean Dumont Baron de Carlscroon (1667-1727) was a French writer and historian who traveled around Europe. He initially planned to publish a book about his travels in Holland, but instead, he wrote critical pamphlets about the French government at the request of his publisher. These pamphlets were popular, but they also meant he couldn't get a job in France anymore.
He decided to stay in Holland and teach public law. His lectures and other writings gained him recognition across Europe.Eventually, the emperor appointed him as his official historian and even gave him the noble title of Baron de Carlscroon. He lived in Vienna until his death.
