The poet’s date of birth is not known. He was an acclaimed meddah and courtesan due his sharp intelligence during the reign of Sultan IV. Murad. According to the sources, Sâkinâme was penned with humorous anecdotes pertaining the people around Sultan IV. Murad.
Sâkinâme is an important genre of Classical Turkish Literature. Consisting of the words “sâkî” (Arabic) and “nâme”, this masnavi type of poem contains advice about death and transience of worldly life.
