AN OTTOMAN VELVET METAL THREAD(CATMA)PANEL / YASTIK, OTTOMAN, TURKEY, POSSIBLY BURSA, 17TH CENTURY
Of rectangular form, the panel embellished with a lustrous deep red velvet ground woven with a central roundel adorned with a resplendent rosette, surrounded with swirling saz leaves, further ensconced with a band of scrolling foliage and floral bouquets against a cream ground.

A decorative back cushions (yastik) with central medallion and border especially used at festivals. Various of Catma examples at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Museum, MET Museum and Sadberk Hanim museum
