A GREEN METAL-THREAD TOMB COVER, OTTOMAN TURKEY, BEGINNING OF 19th CENTURY Of rectangular form, the green silk ground decorated with metal threads in dival technique, mounted onto a thick cotton cloth and lined with green atlas, two roundels with with Arabic inscriptions, reading Allah and Muhammad, surrounded by roundels stemming from scrolling leaves, encircled with a gilt border, a further band formed of garland with stylised chrysanthemums, acanthus leaves and tendrils, a stylised cypress on the right, hanging on both sides, inscriptions designed to be visible from either direction, upper and lower sections seamed together, dividing each piece horizontally into two panels of equal size,
