A large and fine Maras-worked mosque portière, each worked with urns of flowering plants, fan-shaped palmettes, planters with flowering trees and Arabic inscriptions, the cream, red and black satin grounds embroidered in heavily couched gilt calligraphic cartouches, the niche indicating the direction of Mecca which Muslims faced during their prayers five times a day
