Devanagari is an alphabetic script derived from Brahmi writing in the 12-13th century, and is used to write Sanscrit and Hindi. It is written and read left to right. The name “Devanagari” comes from two root words that mean “deity” and “city” and implies writing that is both religious and sophisticated.
