A QAJAR LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ PANEL: THE SHAH WITH HIS ATTENDANTS, IRAN, LATE 19TH CENTURY

Of rectangular form, lacquered, polychrome-painted, the horizontal composition depicting Shah seated on his crown, surrounded by attendants and soldiers, attendants on the left side dressed in blue, whole those on the right side dressed in red attire, scene further adorned with hunting animals positioned above the main depiction, entire composition encased within a nasta’liq calligraphic border, arrangement of the composition is characteristic of Fath’ Ali Shah and was frequently reproduced on lacquered panels during the 19th Century
